Offering Teletherapy in Virginia
PMAD
(Perinatal Mood and
Anxiety Disorder)
I provide teletherapy sessions for women experiencing postpartum anxiety or depression (PMAD) for clients in the state of Virginia.
If you are seeking help for postpartum issues, you might be feeling overwhelmed, alone, and uncertain. Be assured that by looking for help you are doing the right thing. One of the pleasures of working with women with postpartum issues is that they get better!
During your therapy session, together we will evaluate your level of anxiety and depression. Initially, we will assess the level of sleep deprivation and address how to increase levels of self-care while managing expectations of motherhood, and changing roles with your partner. As an experienced therapist, mother, and grandmother, it is my privilege to help women navigate the postpartum period with support and guidance.
The first goal of a PMAD therapy session evaluation is to address depression and anxiety that may be bio-chemical or caused by physical issues. This may require a consultation with the OB/GYN or PCP to evaluate the need for medication. Partner and family support must be marshaled in order to help the mother get adequate rest and develop a program of self-care. Education regarding PMAD will be discussed in order understand and normalize the symptoms and treatment. When symptoms subside, referral to support groups, mother’s groups and parenting classes may be helpful as well as couple’s sessions to address changing roles and expectations. All of this will be provided in a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.
